For a long time, Surprise has been a huge destination for retirees. Between 1990 and the early 2000s alone, tens of thousands of new retirees moved to the city to enjoy the incredible amenities. With beautiful, age-restricted resort-like communities such as Sun City Grand, it’s no surprise. Communities like these have been a huge factor in ensuring the continued growth of the city.

For sports fans, Surprise Stadium serves as the Spring Training home for major league baseball teams including the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers. Voted the #1 Spring Training Stadium in Arizona by USA Today, Surprise Stadium offers everything a baseball fan could want. In addition to baseball, Surprise is also home to the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex. Since opening in August of 2007, the complex has earned numerous awards and hosted various professional events.

Surprise is conveniently located in the northern part of Maricopa County. Just 28 miles from Phoenix City Hall, you’ll have access to all the benefits that come with living in or around a major metropolitan city. In addition, you’re just a couple hours south of some of Arizona’s most scenic cities and towns.

Surprise City History:
Surprise, founded by Flora Mae Statler, was named as such because she “would be surprised if the town ever amounted to much”. If only Flora could see the city now. Between 2000 and 2010, the city saw a population growth of 281%, bringing the local population from 30,848 to a whopping 117,517. Since then, the estimated population is said to be closer to 138,161.
